Brede is a strategic communications adviser with a background in defence, geopolitics and risk management, working at the intersection of technology, security and politics.
He spent many years in the Norwegian Armed Forces, including a decade as Strategic Adviser to the Chief of the Army. In this role, he was responsible for strategic communication, political engagement and contributions to high‑level planning, as well as analysis on the future of warfare and the adoption of new technologies. He has also led a project directly for the Chief of Defence on offensive and defensive military‑strategic communication.
Brede has operational experience from several international deployments, including Afghanistan, giving him practical insight into the full lifecycle of defence materiel – from early innovation, acquisition and scaling to operational use. Most recently, he served as Director for Geopolitical Risk and Crisis Communication at Yara International, where he also held the role of global head of communications, responsible for corporate communications across 60 countries.
His experience is particularly relevant for companies operating at the interface of rapid innovation and government customers, navigating export controls, reputation, political attention and investor expectations. He primarily advises clients in defence and technology, but also works with industrial and financial actors outside the defence sector.
Brede holds a master’s degree in International Relations from the London School of Economics, a journalism degree from the University of Texas at Austin, and executive education from Harvard Kennedy School.
International also in his private life, Brede is married to Tanya from England. As she continues to work there, the family spends considerable time in both Oslo and London. They have two teenage daughters who attend the French School in Oslo and United World College in Wales.
